Dole is the biggest producer of pineapples in the world. For every 1 ton of pineapples harvested, 3 tons of leaves are wasted.
How can we turn this waste into an opportunity for everyone?
We developed Piñatex, a vegan, cruelty-free, and sustainable leather alternative made from the fiber of pineapple leaves that would otherwise go to waste. This was not a regular advertising campaign, but a business idea that has positively affected Dole, Ananas Anam, local farmers and the world we live in.
Over 1,000 brands globally are now using Piñatex, including H&M and Nike. The partnership story of Dole + Ananas Anam generated over $17M in earned media, and positioned Dole as a global brand in the forefront of innovation and sustainability. We were invited to the United Nations SDG Media Summit to present our work as a world class example of sustainable development through actions and action-driven campaigns. L&C won Fast Company World Changing idea 2023 with this sustainable solution.
